World Inbox

DEAR WORLD: THE WORLD INBOX BEGINS HERE

The World Inbox is my down payment on the future I am trying to build.

Dear world,

I am finding myself in a position where the news has to be redesigned.

The difference between me and reporters is simple. Reporters try to report what is happening, and too often people are left with more information and more confusion. With me, I am looking at the people who are actually wrong, the people who need to be held accountable, and at the same time I am going to try to simplify what is happening so that you can understand it and play your own role.

Maybe you are just a citizen.

Maybe you are a scholar.

Maybe you are a teacher, a worker, a parent, a leader, or someone who simply cares about what happens to the world.

All of us have a role in shaping the world.

But information has moved so fast that a few politicians can make enormous decisions—decisions about war, peace, economies, sanctions, weapons, and even nuclear weapons—without ordinary people really being connected to what is happening.

That is one of the reasons I am redesigning the news.

I am putting myself in the middle of the battlefield of information, not because I want to become another reporter, but because I believe news should help people understand what is happening, who is responsible, who is out of line, who is playing politics with people's lives, and what role the rest of us have in responding.

My website is going to start playing a very critical role in that.

I have created what I call the World Inbox.

The idea is simple.

You should be able to come to the World Inbox because something is happening somewhere on Earth—a war, a diplomatic crisis, an economic conflict, a political struggle—and you just need to understand what is going on.

Not twenty television stations.

Not hundreds of social-media posts.

Not politicians talking past one another.

Not endless commentary.

One inbox.

A place where the information is brought together, simplified, interpreted, and given back to you in a way that helps you understand the larger picture.

But more importantly, I want you to find your role inside that flow of information.

A role in accountability.

A role in truth.

A role in understanding.

A role in knowing when political leaders are simply playing politics with our lives.

There are leaders who are willing to burn the world to the ground.

There are people making decisions about wars that millions of people never asked for.

There are leaders discussing nuclear weapons while ordinary human beings are disconnected from the information and disconnected from the decisions being made in their names.

We cannot continue living like that.

We cannot be alive, breathing on this planet, affected by every decision, and yet have no meaningful relationship with the information shaping our lives.

This is the beginning of changing that.

The World Inbox is my down payment on the future I am trying to build.

A future where people are informed enough to participate.

A future where leaders understand that someone is watching.

A future where governments know that citizens can understand what is happening without needing to become experts in foreign policy.

A future where information does not simply pass over people's heads.

It reaches them.

They understand it.

And then they decide what responsibility they have.

If you are a world leader, a philanthropist, a scholar, a technologist, or someone with the resources to help build something meaningful, I look to your generosity and your support.

Help me build this World Inbox.

Because this is bigger than a website.

People have a responsibility simply because they are living and breathing on this planet.

Politicians are making decisions of war, peace, economics, sanctions, alliances, and weapons, and when they are out of line, they have to be held accountable.

The public cannot hold anyone accountable if the public cannot understand what is happening.

That is the problem I am trying to solve.

And I believe the future is going to be about inboxes.

Not broadcasting at people.

Not forcing people to live on social media.

Not asking everyone to follow hundreds of accounts.

You come to one place.

You open the inbox.

You understand the situation.

And then you decide what role you have.

This is the beginning.

And this is my update on the Russia-Ukraine-Europe conflict, with one goal:

Understanding what is going on.
